After some much hype, Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus' new collab, "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart," dropped on Thursday night (November 29) and it hears the pair deliver one hell of a folk-rock dance anthem.
Clocking in at four minutes, the Ronson and Jamie xx-produced track opens up on a steady note for Cyrus to sing about romance and allude to the devastating Southern California wildfires. However, once the chorus kicks in, the track flowers into the sad banger that it's been touted as. "Well, there's broken silence/ By thunder crashing in the dark/ And this broken record/ Spin endless circles in the bar/ This world can hurt you/ It cuts you deep and leaves a scar/ Things fall apart, but nothing breaks like a heart/ Mhmm, and nothing breaks like a heart," she croons during the hook. While the cut will appear on Ronson's forthcoming studio album, which is due next year, "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart" serves as Cyrus' first new song since her 2017 album, Younger Now.
The video for the song dropped simultaneously and it's an ode to how we perceive celebrity in a troubled world. Cyrus flees a police chase as she makes her way through various set-ups like children shooting guns, football players kneeling and other symbolic scenarios. Both stars have already lined up performances for the collab on Saturday Night Live and The Graham Norton Show in December.
Back in May, the duo teased the star-studded team up, with the hitmaker complimenting Cyrus on her vocal skills via social media. "Green juices and heartbreaking tunes," the pop star captioned a shot of the two in the studio. Unfortunately, the timing is off for the star, who just celebrated her 26th birthday and simultaneously lost her and future husband Liam Hemsworth's Malibu mansion.
